Nonetheless, despite the growth of network marketing overall there still exist a lot of misconceptions.
Misconception #1 This really isn't sales, it's just sharing information.
Yeah it sounds so much better to not be involved in sales right ? But here’s the thing: any good business has a sales department, in some form or fashion. They have to bring in money at some point no ? And marketing is a part of sales. There are a ton of ways to break this down and discuss semantics about what constitutes sales or not but I don’t want to get into that. I simply like to look at it like this: if you're in network marketing YOU are now in charge of your own personal franchise that you can decide to manage how you want, and build up or run into the ground however you want. YOU are in charge of all the different departments- HR, training, development, marketing and yes, sales. If you decide not to focus on sales, that is fine- you just need to recruit a lot offolks who do.
Misconception #2 If it breaths, it's a prospect. Your prospects are everywhere. They are the things that are still breathing.
Of the all the delusions that exist, this one is the most destructive to this industry . This one thing affects your reputation as a professional more than any other. Practices like "the three foot rule" just endup making one look like a carny trying to get someone near enough to guess their weight or fall for some other suspect enterprise. Desperate. No one likes desperate, and no one does business with desperate. Understand that you don't need everybody- and not everybody needs you. Most people are unwilling to make the changes and sacrifices necessary to better themselves. Just find the people who are. One tihng you cannot do is change people, even if it's for the better. So concentrate on the people who do want to do well. .
Misconception #3 Anyone can do it.
While there are nuggets of truth in this statement it is not completely correct. Certain jobs do prepare people for certain features of this industry better than others-still that is not what is needed for success. The biggest keys are having someone who is open to teaching and determined to achieve something.
This will take more training than you can get from your company. You need to learn marketing skills. Most companies teach you about their product, which is fine. They teach you how to market their products. What they don't teach and you need to learn is how to market yourself. Network marketing opportunities are everywhere now. People yearn to enlist in something only if they believe it has a generous chance of bringing them success as well. And they will join someone they believe can help them reach their goals. In the end it is about them , though the product may have some to do with it. Thisstyle of business requires concentrated effort-and skilled effort. Most network marketing business do not offer the sort of training you need for your business to truly be successful.
Misconception #4 We’ve Got This
A number of agencies advertise new "systems" in which they put a downline for you, etc. and you just sit back and watch the money roll in. If you want to squander your money on these, be my guest. To have a booming business, one must put in time and exertion to make it work. There are lots of ways to automate yourself and make things easier, but there are no secretshortcuts. You either have to put in time or money, or both to make your business grow. Of course you don’t have to take my advice and can try one of these systems-I’d actually love to hear how it turns out. But I wouldn’t hang your hat on this assembling a substantial business for you.
Misconception # 5 Your product is better than peaunut butter and jelly
Having a cleverproduct to give your support todoes not assure success- if it did there would be a lot more millionaires out there right now. It matters how you market. Without a quality marketing system in place, your remarkable product will end up gathering dust in the basement. People then often want to say " well you haven’t seen our compensation plan, which is the best thing since glazed donuts." Mediocre marketing will trump everything else you try to do or your company offers- it is that crucial to the growth of your business.
